FICCI REQUESTS INDUSTRY CAPTAINS TO CONTRIBUTE TO HELP AFFECTED HOMELESS OF FLOOD DISASTER IN BALASORE AND MAYURBHANJ DISTRICTS, ORISSA

FICCI has received a request from Mr. M A Kharabela Swain, Hon'ble Member of Parliament (Loksabha) to assist him in reconstructing low cost houses in these two severely affected districts of Orissa. Participating in this social initiative would help your organization communicating your vision to local communities and would be branded as a Socially Responsive Organisation.

The districts of Balasore and Mayurbhanj in Orissa have been very severely devastated by repeated floods during the last monsoon. This year flood was unprecedented - 8 blocks in the district of Balasore i.e. Bhograj, Jaleswar, Baliapal, Basta, Balasore Sadar, Remuna, Nilgiri and 2 blocks in the district of Mayurbhanj i.e. Betnati and Badsahi have thoroughly been affected by this high voltage flood. About 7000 houses have been fully or substantially damaged by this flood and above 30000 houses have been partially damaged.

Hence, we would earnestly request you to extend Relief Fund for this noble cause by adopting maximum possible number of houses to reconstruct as per the proposal given below:

Proposal

• The low cost housing technology is supplied by the Council for Advancement of People's Action and Rural Technology (CAPART) working under the aegis of Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India or similar other organization
• Each house will cost around Rs.50,000. It will consist of one room 14'x12' with 168 sq.ft. floor area with 3.5'x8ft below poverty line toilet.
• The district administration has already identified the beneficiaries and land will be provided by the beneficiaries themselves.
• The district administration will extend all sorts of help in constructing such low cost houses. If required, the district administration will shoulder the responsibility of constructing the low cost houses.
• The house will be built in the name of the Donor.
• Income Tax Exemption would be provided if money is deposited with President, Red Cross, Balasore.
• A plan of such a low cost house is attached herewith.
